Congratulations! You can now proceed to the next stage but do
not forget to keep writing your journal. Let’s look at the nature of the
writing process.
THE WRITING PROCESS
All effective writing is well planned. A writer must
determine what he wants to say and how he wants to say it. The writer has a
responsibility to convey ideas in the clearest way possible. Writing is a
process with steps that must be followed. These steps include determining the
topic, planning, drafting, editing, revising, and proofreading. Without this
process, valuable information could be lost to the reader.
Before we start writing, we must ask ourselves three
questions:
- What is my subject?
- Who is my audience?
- What is my purpose?
The answer to these questions will determine our product.
Each variable plays a role in determining the final product.
The Subject
This is the topic of the written work. There are an infinite
number of subjects about which to write. Once the subject is determined, it
should be made specific. The subject should be narrow as possible.
Example: 1. How to face an important examination day.
2.
The ill effects of pollution in your country.
3. The impact of violence in scary
movies for teens.
The Audience
This is the person or people who will read the piece.
Considering the audience will help determine content, language, and tone. Some
audiences require more background information about the topic than others. The
level of vocabulary and tone can be different with varied groups of
individuals.
Example:
A music article published in Teen People magazine.
The audience in this case is
teenagers. The subject of this article must be music geared towards teenagers.
The vocabulary must be accessible to teenagers and the language level would be
appropriate for adolescents.
The Purpose
This is the goal of the written word. There are many
different purposes for writing. The purpose may be to persuade others to the
author’s way of thinking. The article might simply tell a good story for the
purpose of entertaining the reader. The purpose for writing must be clear from
the start.
Example:
A review of a new song release
The purpose of this article is to
review a song. The reviewer could either praise the music or criticize it, and
therefore persuade the reader to the write’s way of thinking.
Now you have a
clear overview of writing your essay topic. Thus I would like you to determine
the topic for your essay. You must
consider the subject, audience and purpose in selecting the topic for your
essay. Kindly post your essay topic to this blog latest by August 4, 2014

topic of your essay guys. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Enjoy your holiday!
